⚠ Both harassment AND violence prevention training are mandatory for every Canadian employee
Every province and the federal government require employers to provide both harassment prevention and violence prevention training to all employees. Nova Scotia became the final province to mandate harassment training effective September 1, 2025 — meaning there is now no jurisdiction in Canada where this training is optional. This one course meets both the harassment prevention and violence prevention training requirements in every Canadian province. Two legal obligations. One course. One certificate.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does this course cover both harassment AND violence prevention?
Yes. This course covers both. Sections 1 through 4 cover harassment prevention including definitions, recognition, reporting, anti-reprisal protection, and provincial resources. Section 5 covers violence prevention including the legal definition, four types of workplace violence, recognizing warning signs, emergency response, reporting violent incidents and threats, and the duty to warn. One course meets both legal obligations.
Does this course meet the requirements in my province?
Yes. This course covers the core training requirements — what harassment and violence are, how to recognize them, how to respond, how to report, and employee rights — that are required by every provincial OHS Act and the federal Canada Labour Code. It applies to BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, and federally regulated workplaces. Quebec employers with French-speaking employees should contact us separately.
Does harassment and violence prevention training require an approved provider?
No. Unlike some other workplace training, harassment and violence prevention training in Canada does not require a government-approved provider in any province. The employer is responsible for ensuring workers receive training on the required topics. No approval process is needed.
How often do employees need to be retrained?
Federally regulated employers must retrain every 3 years. Most provinces require retraining whenever the harassment or violence policy is updated. Best practice across all provinces is every 2-3 years and for every new hire. The completion certificate records the date so your employer can track when retraining is due.
Do supervisors need a separate course?
Yes. Supervisors and managers have additional legal duties beyond those of other employees — receiving complaints, the duty to act when they observe harassment or violence, documentation obligations, confidentiality rules during investigations, and supervisor-specific violence response obligations. The Supervisors Course at $24.99 per person covers all of these. Supervisors should complete both courses.
What about Quebec?
Quebec requires that harassment prevention training be available in French for Quebec-based employees. This course is currently in English only. Quebec employers with French-speaking employees should contact us at support@mysafetyprep.com to discuss options.
